The Sun, the Moon, and the World in Darkness

I wonder does the moon
Attempt to make itself brighter
Or darker than the sun
Gives it luminance to be?

I wonder does it feel,
When it's waning, that it's failing
To live up to its purpose
Giving luminance to me?

And I wonder, is it true,
When I fail to trust the Spirit,
Am I simply doing best
With what He fashioned me to be?

Or can I, unlike the moon,
Make myself faithlessly dimmer
Than the One, in His abundance,
Wants to shine His Son in me?
